William F. Powers Obituary

William F. “Bill” Powers, age 75, of Trafalgar, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, August 23, 2025, at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis.

Bill was born on December 16, 1949, in Indianapolis to the late Frank W. and Elizabeth A. (Doran) Powers. He was a 1967 graduate of Arsenal Tech High School and dedicated over 31 years of service as a Machinist and Union Committeeman at Rolls Royce America in Indianapolis before retiring in 2008. Bill was a proud member of the United Auto Workers Union, Local 933 in Indianapolis.

Bill had a deep love for the outdoors and a heart for helping others. He found joy riding horseback with his late wife, Jane, especially on his cherished horse, “Roper.” His compassion and connection to animals were clear in his volunteer work at Meadowstone Therapeutic Riding Center in Franklin, as well as in training horses and driving their carriage. Bill was also a certified Equine Massage Therapist, dedicated to the care and well-being of the animals he loved.

A true outdoorsman with a giving heart, he found joy in nature and in helping others. Whether he was horseback riding with his late wife Jane on his beloved horse “Roper,” volunteering at Meadowstone Therapeutic Riding Center in Franklin, or training horses and driving their horse-drawn carriage, Bill's passion for animals and service to others shone through. He was also a certified Equine Massage Therapist. Bill was a member of Morgantown United Methodist Church and actively involved in several organizations, including the Indiana Whips & Wheels, American Quarter Horse Association, Paint Horse Association, and the United States Practical Shooting Association.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, D. Jane (Kerkhof) Powers, whom he married on July 2, 1977 in Indianapolis; his parents; and siblings, Elaine Powers, James Powers & Joseph Powers.

Survivors include his siblings, Jack (Vivina) Powers of Greenwood, Kathleen Powers of Avon and Mary Ellen (Allan) Snyder of Seymour; nieces, Susan Snyder of Greenwood and Jessicah Powers of Bargersville; nephew, Scott (Amy) Snyder of Greenwood; and sister-in-law, Diane Powers of Cumberland.
