William “Buddy” Larry Mercer, age 62 passed away all too soon on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at his home in Brown County.

Buddy proudly served his country as a Corporal with 11th Marine Regiment with the United States Marine Corps from 1979 until 1984. During his time in the service, Buddy was a Rifleman and Marksmanship Instructor. After the Marine Corps, he continued to serve his country with the Indiana National Guard.

Buddy was a member of The Crossing church in Prince’s Lakes and enjoyed partaking in their summer church camp in Martinsville. He was involved within his community by his deeds, kindness and giving of his time to volunteer. Buddy was a proud Veteran and served with the Nashville Indiana American Legion Post #13 Honor Guard, rendering military funeral honors for fellow veterans. In 2022, he was awarded Veteran of the Year by the Brown County Veteran Coalition. He also served as an officer locally in both the Brown County Shrine Club and Nashville Masonic Lodge #135. Additionally, Buddy was active with the Brown County Lions Club as well as anywhere else he could lend a hand.

In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and was known for being a Jack-of-all-trades.  He will be remembered most for his generous heart, love of his grandchildren and his unyielding faith in God.

He will be missed by his father, Larry Gene Mercer of Brown County; children, Tim Mercer, Larry Mercer and John Mercer all of Brown County; grandchildren, Ashlynn, Joscelyn, Gertie, Henry, Garrett and Clara Mercer and Katie Underwood; sisters, Valerie (Mike) Dunn of Brown County, and Trina Watkins of Greenwood, as well as several nieces, nephews and many others who called him Pappy.
