Wayne Van Winkle Obituary

Wayne D. Van Winkle, age 76, of Morgantown, passed away all too soon on Thursday afternoon, March 27, 2025, at IU Health – Morgan in Martinsville.

Wayne was born in Indianapolis on November 30, 1948, to Carl H. and Alice M. (Hickman) Van Winkle. He was a 1967 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to serve as a Machinist's Mate with the United States Navy. Wayne was honorably discharged on August 27, 1971. He retired in 2013 from International Cryogenics Inc. in Indianapolis after 10 years of dedicated service. Before that, he worked as an assistant manager for over 20 years at Wray’s Produce in Morgantown.

A devoted member of the Hoosier Harvest Christian Church in Martinsville, Wayne served as an Usher for over 12 years. He was passionate about being outdoors, whether tending to his yard, camping, or fishing. Wayne was an avid college basketball fan and a fan of the Indianapolis Colts. Above all, Wayne loved spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren, and cherished his moments of reading the Bible.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Judy Faye (Kirby) Van Winkle, whom he married on September 8, 1971 in Franklin. He is also survived by his children, Scott (Missy) Van Winkle of Nineveh and Rhea (Kevin) Hardwick of Trafalgar; sister-in-law’s, Sue Van Winkle and Jeannie Van Winkle, both of Morgantown; grandchildren, Garrett Bunce of Edinburgh, Christian Van Winkle of Bargersville, Kylie Van Winkle of Orlando, Florida and Kirsten Van Winkle of Nineveh; great-grandchildren Jackson and Nova; and the world’s greatest kitty cat, Miss Kitty.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alice Van Winkle; and his brothers, Ross, Keith, Kevin, and Bruce Van Winkle.

A funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Chris Page on Thursday, April 3rd, at 1:00 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street, Morgantown.
