Walter A. “Speed” Glidden, age 89 passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, December 13, 2023 at Franklin Meadows. He was a resident of Greenwood and a former resident of Trafalgar.
Speed was born March 1, 1934 in Morgantown, to the late Harry F. and Julia E. (Doty) Glidden. He retired in 1998 as a Production Worker from Arvin's Automotive in Franklin & Greenwood after 44 years of service. After retirement, he worked as an Usher for the Indianapolis Indians Baseball team.
Speed enjoyed drag racing and won several trophies with his 1962 Chevy Impala when he was younger. He also enjoyed fishing, visiting with family, eating out and watching television crime dramas and old western movies. Speed was a fan of professional football & baseball, with the St. Louis Cardinals being his favorite team. He was also an avid NASCAR fan with Danica Patrick being his favorite driver.
Speed is survived by his siblings, Mary L. (Joe) McKinney and Larry G. (Kay) Glidden both of Franklin & William G. Glidden of Warrensburg, MO; sister-in-law, Phyllis Glidden of Martinsville; brother-in-law, Charles R. Mudd of Trafalgar; and several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, James R. Glidden, Robert Vern Glidden, Morris Henry Glidden & Jennie L. Mudd; and a sister-in-law, Ellen Glidden
The Rev. Jeff Hopson will conduct a funeral service at 3 p.m. on Monday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
