Violet Sizemore, age 96, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, April 17, 2026, at her home in Brown County, surrounded by her loving family.
Violet was born on March 21, 1930, in Clay County, Kentucky, to her parents, the late Howard and Malvie (Barger) Hoskins. She was a devoted preacher’s wife, loving mother, grandmother, and homemaker who dedicated her life to Jesus and her family. Violet was a longtime member of Friendship Community Church in Trafalgar, where her husband faithfully served as pastor.
Violet enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and collecting tic-toc clocks. She will be especially remembered for her excellent cooking and baking. Her muffins, banana pudding, chicken and dumplings, and biscuits and gravy were favorites among family and friends and will be dearly missed. She was an avid reader of her Bible and also enjoyed watching the news and religious television programs. Above all, Violet loved her family deeply and cherished every moment spent with them.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Rev. Dewey Sizemore Jr., whom she married on March 12, 1949, in Manchester, Kentucky. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Danny Sizemore; and her siblings, Ballard Hoskins, Myrtle Hoskins, Hugh Hoskins, and Jeff Hoskins.
Violet is survived by her children, Larry Sizemore, Ballard (Cristy) Sizemore, and Anita Wilkerson, all of Brown County; Vanessa (Paul) French of Martinsville; and Malvie (Garry) Holland of Indianapolis; her siblings, Clabbie Hoskins of Brown County and Hiram (Pearl) Hoskins of Louisville, Kentucky; 21 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Mac Smith on Thursday, April 23, at 10:00 a.m. at Meredith Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street, Morgantown. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
