Vetty M. (York) Tharpe, age 78 of Morgantown, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, December 1, 2023 at her home in Morgantown.
Vetty was born August 13, 1945 to her parents, the late Foster V. and Maggie F. (Duncan) York.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.
Vetty was a member of the Morgantown General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. She enjoyed the outdoors by tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Vetty also enjoyed reading her Bible, listening to gospel music and watching the Animal Planet television channel. She will be remembered for her delicious cooking & baking, especially her homemade yeast & cinnamon rolls and cherry pies. Vetty will be missed by her family, especially her children and grandchildren who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death on December 25, 1991 by her loving husband of 28 years, John E. Tharpe; whom she married on February 24, 1963. Vetty was also preceded in death by siblings, Jim York and Foster York Jr.
She is survived by her children, Trudie Ann Parson of Morgantown, Johnnie Marie Clark of Mitchell, John E. Tharpe Jr. & Daniel Ray Tharpe, both of Morgantown; former husband and good friend, Robert “Bob” Sheldon of Camby; siblings, Brenda Stuart, Russell & Kenny York; half-sisters, Connie Hatley & Dottie Martin; step siblings, Helen Hanner & Earl Hanner; sister-in-law, Peggy York; 14 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Bro. Rodger Bunch will conduct a funeral service on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
