Sue Mitchell-Wayt Obituary

Sue Ann Mitchell - Wayt, age 86 passed away peacefully on Friday morning, June 9, 2023 at the IU Bloomington Hospice House. She was a resident of Nashville in Willow Manor Senior Apartments for twelve years.

Sue was born July 28, 1936 in New Rochelle, New York to Fredric Wilford Schulhoff and Ann Dorothy (Guinee) Schulhoff. Her father passed away when she was quite young in New York and her mother remarried where they moved to Indiana with her adoptive father, Elvin “Big” Mitchell. Her only sibling, sister Nancy Lee Mitchell was born when she was 10 years old. She later graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1955 and still kept up with classmates. She was married on November 12, 1955 to Henry Burton Mitchell of Fishers, and together they had their two children Robin & Scott. Henry proceeded her in death in November of 1972.

She started the 2nd half of her life marrying Chuck Wayt of Nashville in the late 80’s. They later moved to Florida for the next 12 years receiving her Certified Nursing Assistant Degree from Ivy Tech in Lake City, Florida. Sue retired in 1998 from the Visiting Nurse Association and from Lake County Nursing after 11 years of service in Florida.

Prior to that, she worked at the Brown County Purdue Extension Office during the 1970’s and then as the Deputy Assessor for Brown County during the late 1980’s.

Sue was a former Brown County 4H Leader who enjoyed volunteering and helping others in need. Known by Susie to her friends, she was a mom to Robin and Scott, but she was also a mother to many Brown County teenagers. She was a warm hug when you needed one and would wipe your tears away. She was funny, smart and sassy with a smile that would brighten every room. She was non-judgmental, incredibly accepting and would do everything possible to help you. She was filled with wonderful advice but never forced anything. To know Susie was to love her and many were so lucky to be loved by her and will miss her very much.

She will be missed by her children, Robin Lynn (Philip) Smith of Nashville & Henry Scott Mitchell of Indianapolis; sister, Nancy Mitchell of Mooresville; grandchildren, Kacee Smith and Gracie Nichole Morgan; great grandchildren, Azhia, Kinidy & Timber Morgan, Devin Smith & Mason Thompson; great-great grandchild, Lincoln Philip Thomas Smith; nieces, Kimberly Ann Campbell of Mooresville & Leslie Renee Mitchell of Camby; great niece & nephew, Taylor Dilliney of Camby & Andrew Arthur of Muncie; brother and sister in law Ron and Wilma Wayt, nieces Cheryl Wayt-Moore, Rhonda Wayt-Freshour, Lisa Wayt-Golden and family of Bloomington.

Sue was preceded in death by her mother, Ann Dorothy Guinee Schulhoff-Mitchell-Nester; father, Fredric Wilford Schuloff; adoptive father, Elvin Mitchell; first husband, Henry Burton Mitchell; second husband, Charles E. Wayt; and a great grandson, Oakley Morgan.
