Shirley A. (Oringderff) Woodmansee, age 76, of Nashville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, March 27, 2026, at IU Health in Bloomington.
Shirley was born in Indianapolis on April 30, 1949, to the late Amos Arthur and Lula Maye (Lawyer) Oringderff. She was a 1967 graduate of Danville High School and went on to earn her Secretarial certificate from Indianapolis Secretarial College. Shirley retired from Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, where she worked for many years as a dedicated administrative assistant. She also spent time working at Brown County State Park, warmly welcoming guests during the evening hours at the gate.
Shirley loved the beauty and peace of the hills of Brown County, which she proudly called home for many years. Later, at Willow Manor Apartments in Nashville, she found not just a place to live, but a true community. She formed lasting friendships with fellow residents, many of whom she considered family.
Though she relied on a motorized scooter, Shirley remained fiercely independent and always looked for ways to help others. She was known for organizing holiday gatherings for residents, lending a hand with sewing projects, and bringing people together. Her kindness, generosity, and strong spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met. From her brother Gene: "Shirley was the strongest woman I've ever known. She constantly amazed me with her courage through the hardest of times. Life will not be the same without her. My confident in every way."
Shirley will be fondly remembered for her many talents and hobbies. She enjoyed crafting, crocheting, and sewing, and was always ready for a game of cards or other friendly competition. She also loved music, often singing and playing the piano, sharing her joy with those around her.
She is survived by her brother, Arthur “Gene” (Sue) Oringderff of Washington, Utah; her nephew, Douglas (Renita) Oringderff of Santa Fe, Texas; and a close circle of dear friends she considered family: Rosie Risley, Lucille Jones, Doris Shepherd, Terry Briles, Shirley Walls, Mary Bales, Elaine Bailey, Joe Fox, and Terry, Dan and Joe Woodhouse, all of Brown County.
In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, she will be cremated and inurned at Goshen Cemetery in Brown County. Cremation services have been entrusted to Meredith Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
