Sammie D. Pullen, age 79 passed away peacefully on Monday evening, June 26, 2023 with his loving daughter and wife by his side at their home in Morgantown.
Sam was born March 16, 1944 in Barren County, Kentucky, to his parents, the late Johnnie Ely and Minnie L. (Thomas) Pullen. He attended Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis and during his senior year of high school, he eloped with the love of his life, Kathern “Phyllis” Leach on March 18, 1963 in Gainsborro, Tennessee. She lovingly survives after 60 devoted years of marriage.
Sam began his career as a Tool Machinist for Quality Gage, and later worked as a Tool Machinist and Grinder for Navistar in Indianapolis. Sam was the owner and operator of his small taxidermy business, Sampson Taxidermy.
He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors by fishing, hunting and golfing. Sam also enjoyed putting together model cars and spending time with his family.
He will be missed by his wife, Phyllis Pullen of Morgantown; children, Tammy (Anthony) Hiner of Morgan County and Chris (Holly) Pullen of Ellettsville; grandchildren, Jessica N (Erik) Crow of Paragon, and Amanda M (T.J.) Walters of Ellettsville, great grandson Magnus A. Crow; and brother Tony (Kathy) Pullen of Gosport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Jerrie Wilson and Johnnie Pullen.
The Rev. John Parsley will conduct a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5th at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
