Robert “Bob” Allen Stuart, age 70, of Brown County, passed away tragically on Friday afternoon, May 1, 2026, while working on his property doing what he loved—operating heavy equipment.
Bob was born in Indianapolis on December 19, 1955, to the late Roy and Martha Ann (Kaufman) Stuart. He graduated from Indian Creek High School in 1975 and went on to serve his country in the United States Army as a Private, receiving an honorable discharge in 1979. Bob continued his military career with the Indiana Army National Guard, serving more than 30 years and retiring in 2011 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
During his time in the Guard, Bob served with the 1313th Engineer Company in Kuwait, where he supported engineering operations, and with the 1438th Transportation Company in Iraq, where he was involved in convoy operations and security missions. He was a decorated soldier, earning two Bronze Star Medals in recognition of his heroic service and dedication.
In addition to his military service, Bob was a truck driver for more than 50 years, working both independently and for Indy Specified in Indianapolis. Earlier in life, he worked as a meat cutter at the Morgantown IGA. He will be remembered as a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family.
Bob was a member of Cottonwood Church in Brown County, Edinburgh American Legion Post 233, and Nineveh Masonic Lodge #317. He enjoyed working with what he fondly called his “big boy toys”—his heavy equipment—as well as planting flowers and bird watching, especially Blue Jays and Cardinals. He was a fan of old westerns like Gun Smoke, Lone Ranger and Bonanza. Above all, Bob loved his family deeply and cherished time spent with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Stuart.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Tina M. (Rutter) Stuart, whom he married on April 3, 1976, in Morgantown; his children, JoAnna Dolph of Austin, Texas, and Randy (Amanda) Stuart of Brown County; his siblings, Walter (Cherryl) Stuart of Martinsville, Sueann (John Heinze) Stuart of Phoenix, Arizona, Rita (Chip) Gatewood of Brown County, Beverly (John) Day of Brown County and LuAnn Stuart of Indianapolis; his grandchildren, Robbie Dolph II, Jordan Dolph, Marino Dolph, Anakin Dolph, Allen Fowler and Paige Alldredge; great-granddaughter, Violet Dolph; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Meredith Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown. The Rev. Darrel Miller will conduct a funeral service on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery, with military rites presented by the United States Army and the Edinburgh American Legion Honor Guard.
