Richard 'Bud' Morris Walker

Richard "Bud" Morris Walker, 97, of Trafalgar, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

Bud was born on April 5, 1929, at his family's home in Johnson County to his parents, the late Percy L. and Hesper M. (Clark) Walker. He graduated from Trafalgar High School in 1947, where he proudly served as vice president of his graduating class.

Following high school, Bud answered the call to serve his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War, serving as an Electrician's Mate.

On February 27, 1954, Bud married the love of his life, Earline J. Penry, in Martinsville. Together they shared 72 wonderful years of marriage and built a loving family, raising their four daughters: Susan, Sharon, Sandra, and Stacey.

Bud dedicated much of his career to manufacturing and maintenance. He retired at the age of 68 from the maintenance department at Arvin Industries in Franklin. Earlier in his career, he served as plant manager at the Red Gold canning factory in Trafalgar and later as the plant manager for the Morgan Packing Plant in Franklin.

A devoted member of his community, Bud was a founder and charter member of the Trafalgar Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a proud lifelong member of the Trafalgar American Legion Post 416 and later enjoyed spending time at the Edinburgh American Legion Post 233. He was also a member of the Trafalgar Christian Church.

Bud found his greatest happiness outdoors. He enjoyed tending his vegetable garden, working on the family farm, raising beef cattle and chickens, baling hay, and hunting rabbits, turtles, squirrels, and mushrooms. In the early 2000s, he faithfully donated five dozen eggs each week to the Lord's Locker. Throughout his life, Bud always had a loyal dog by his side. In his later years, he could often be found watching old westerns, listening to country music, working in his garden or relaxing on the back porch, watching the birds. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed watching NFL football, college basketball and was a devoted and avid supporter of Purdue University athletics.

Above all else, Bud was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, whose love and memories will continue to honor his remarkable life and enduring legacy.

Bud will be missed by his wife, Earline Walker of Trafalgar; daughters: Susan (Bill) Roberts of Trafalgar, Sharon (Gary) Morris of Bargersville, Sandra (Tom Foster) Brown of Franklin and Stacey (Mike) Kuntz of Trafalgar; grandchildren, Jared (Kim) Sneed, Tyler (Rachel) Sneed, Kristopher (Davlenn) Arkenberg, Kilynn Arkenberg, Brandi (Luke Webster) Kuntz, Seth (Jessica) Brown, Jessie (Rick) Johns; great grandchildren, Kolden, Emery, Taylor, Finn, Krislenn, Karter, Tinley, Tripp, Tana, Arley, Wesson and William as well as several nieces & nephews and great nieces & nephews. 

Bud was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Chauncey Walker, Dale Walker, Helen Utterback and Mary E. Burris.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8th 2026 at Meredith Funeral Home: 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 9th 2026 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin with Military Rites presented by the United States Navy and the local honor guard.
