Richard Eugene Wallace, age 91 of Martinsville, passed away peacefully with his loving wife and family by his side on Wednesday evening, November 22, 2023 at Grand Valley Health & Rehabilitation in Martinsville.
Richard was born November 12, 1932 in Martinsville to his parents Floyd and Lilieth (Day) Wallace. He was a 1951 graduate of Martinsville High School and went on to serve his country with the United States Army during the Korean War. While on a short leave from the military, he flew home and married the love of his life, Katherine “Katie” Kelso on June 20, 1953 in Waverly. Together they were blessed with two children and 70 years of marriage.
Richard retired in 1981 from Allison Transmission in Indianapolis, where he worked as a machinist. He grew up farming and had a love of nature. Richard was a gifted artist and created beautiful wood carvings, jewelry and clocks for friends and family. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Richard will be missed by his wife, Katie Wallace of Martinsville and two sons: Scott (Renee) Wallace of Martinsville and Kipp (Jodi) Wallace of Bedford; grandchildren: Jacklinn 'Nichole' Wallace, Nigel Scott (Meagan Templeton) Wallace and Aryana Katherine Wallace as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Herschel Wallace.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29th at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville with military rites presented by the United States Army and the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard.
