Richard Sturgeon Obituary

Richard L. Sturgeon, age 87 passed away peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2024 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. He was a resident of Morgan County.

Richard was born November 23, 1936 in Illinois. He was a 1955 graduate of Howe High School and later served his country as a Private with the United States Marine Corps.

Richard was a man of many trades and most recently worked in the paint department for Walmart in Franklin. He enjoyed woodcarving and made several items such as canes, bird statues, instruments, doll cradles and rocking horses through the years. Richard never met a stranger and loved spending his mornings drinking coffee among friends at the Green Hill Diner, where they nicknamed him Gabby.

Richard will be missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Loretta “Faye” Sturgeon; children, Jeffrey (Joanne) Sturgeon and Mike (Donna) Sturgeon, Sheilah (Bryan) Smith, Juanita Barger, Curt Ellis, and Karen (Rob) Rainwater; 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and siblings Glenda Taylor and Walda Lawson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Sturgeon and step-mother Eva (Williamson) Sturgeon, daughter, Pam Byers and sister, Darlene Lee.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday, November 14th at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home: 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Bro. Rodger Bunch will conduct a funeral service at 12 p.m. on Thursday with military honors presented by the United States Marine Corps and Morgan County Honor Guards.
