Phyllis Jean Bristow

Phyllis Jean Bristow, age 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, June 7, 2026, at Homeview Health & Rehabilitation Center in Franklin. She was a resident of Indianapolis and a former resident of Harrisburg, Illinois.

Phyllis was born on September 12, 1931, in Carrier Mills, Illinois, to the late Orval James Kuppart and Voneeda Elsie Northrup Cummings. She attended Cain Elementary School in Carrier Mills and later attended Harrisburg High School.

As a teenager, Phyllis was baptized at Calvary Tabernacle in Indianapolis. She married the love of her life, Robert E. Bristow Sr., on July 6, 1948, in Morganfield, Kentucky.

Phyllis earned her beautician's license from Royal Beauty Academy in Indianapolis and owned and operated her own beauty salon for several years. She later worked on the assembly line at RCA and retired from Von Duprin after 14 years in the shipping department.

Phyllis enjoyed reading Christian books, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a hard worker with a kind, loving, and generous heart who was always willing to help others.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on October 14, 1990; her stepmother, Mary Kuppart; her daughter, Carol Litton; her son in law, Jerry Sparks; her siblings, Nelle Mae Smith & Leon Northrup; and her great-granddaughter, Shrene Spegal.

Survivors include her children, Janet Bristow of Cape Coral, Florida, Roberta (Bill) Suddarth of Cape Coral, Florida, Robert Bristow Jr. of Cape Coral, Florida, Rene (Pat) Kotter of Indianapolis, Sheryl Sparks of Indianapolis, and Venus Bristow of Richmond, Kentucky; her sister, Ann (Dave) Rogers of Illinois; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Pastor Jonathan Peterson will conduct a graveside service on Friday, June 12th at 1 p.m. at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
