Peggy Zook Obituary

Peggy S. (Hammer) Zook, age 70, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, August 4, 2025. She was a longtime resident of Morgantown.

Peggy was born in Glasgow, Kentucky, on November 25, 1954, to the late Kenneth Nelson and Willy Francis (Rodgers) Hammer. She attended Wood High School in Indianapolis. Peggy retired from the Morgantown General Store, where she proudly owned and operated the business from 1999 to 2009. Before that, she worked as a CNA at the Morgantown Health Care Inn for five years.

A devoted member of the Martinsville Church of the Firstborn, Peggy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved watching old movies, visiting the casino, and caring for her beloved dog, Gidget. She also enjoyed traveling and motorcycle rides with her late husband, Kenny. Above all, Peggy deeply loved her family and treasured her many friendships.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on January 1, 2012 by her husband, Kenny Zook, whom she married on November 25, 1972 in Gulf Port, Mississippi. Peggy was also preceded in death by her daughter, Tracey Lynn White; and siblings, Robert Hammer, Rick Zehner, Phillip Hammer, and Billy Hammer.

Peggy is survived by her sons, Kenny (Jennifer) Zook of North Vernon and Curtis (Lynn) Zook of Martinsville; her sisters, Janet (Lee) McMullin and Teresa (Buddy) Rose, both of Cloverdale; grandchildren, Bailie (Gavin) Vehling of Martinsville, Shelby White of Trafalgar, Ian White of Warsaw, Emma Zook of North Vernon, and Kennedy Zook of Martinsville; and great-granddaughters, Whinny Zook of North Vernon and Alette Vehling of Martinsville. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Chad White of Warsaw.

A visitation for family and friends will take place on Thursday evening, August 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home, Cremation & Personalization Center, located at 179 E.
