Pastor Samuel Richard Harrington, age 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2023. He was born on October 28, 1927, in Ward Springs, Oklahoma, to Samuel and Veta (Roberts) Harrington. Sam married the love of his life, Francis (Campbell) Harrington on July 2, 1945.
Sam was a deeply spiritual man who shared God’s love with others. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and was loved and admired by many. Whether in the mission fields of Honduras, Guatemala, Peru, Central Indiana Church of God Camp Grounds, or Brown County; the impact of Sam’s life will be felt for years to come.
Sam worked at Allison Gas Turbine (Division of General Motors) for over 30 years as a Machine Repairman. Sam was an example of a man driven by his purpose and faith in God. He attended Berean Bible School and became an ordained minister in 1968 when he began pastoring the Neighborhood Church of God for 38 years. Sam was instrumental in the development of the Central Indiana Church of God Campgrounds and lead mission trips to share God’s word for over 50 years. Sam’s legacy will live on forever through the impact that he had on all of those who had the opportunity to know him.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Veta (Roberts) Harrington, wife Francis (Campbell) Harrington, sister Josie Mae Harrington, Grandson Richard Eugene Harrington.
Sam is survived by his beloved daughter Betty (William) McClelland and son Jerry (Carolyn) Harrington; his sisters: June O’Dell (Joe) Adams; Rita O’Zella (Elmer) Guinn; Grandchildren: Joanne Harrington, Sarah (Michael) Clark, Sherry (Scott) Shuler, William McClelland III, Angie Harrington, Kelli (Bob) Cliff, Marquin (Katherine) Israel; Great Grandchildren: Clayton (KyLee) Harrington, Carissa (Robb) Rice, Quenton Boston, Brandon Boston, Whitney (Jacob) Burkett, Connor Bomar, Shannon Cliff, Heidi Cliff, Kim Israel, Savannah Israel, Samuel Shuler, Gabrielle Shuler; Great Great Grandchildren: Noah Rice, Sophia Rice, Emmerson Harrington and many nephews and nieces.
Pastor Jay Watts will conduct a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 9th at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home: 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Pastor Jim Albertson will conduct a graveside service following the funeral service at White Lick Cemetery in Mooresville.
