Nannette T. (Petro) Cook, age 64, of Nashville, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, January 16, 2026, at IU Health–Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born in Columbus on March 13, 1961, to the late Floyd and Norma (Lucas) Petro. Nannette attended Brown County High School and later retired from the Gnaw Mart in Gnaw Bone, where she worked for several years in the kitchen and as a clerk.
Nannette was a devoted wife, loving mother, dedicated homemaker, and cherished grandmother. Though she was a homebody at heart, she would do anything for her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She found joy in arts and crafts, cooking, and reading about historical times and figures, particularly the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln. A true country girl, she also loved the outdoors and enjoyed mushroom hunting and fishing.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Thomas W. Cook, whom she married on September 17, 1978, in Nashville; her children, Tommy (Mandy) Cook of Freetown and Sheena (Chris) Kaufman of Nashville; her sister, Michelle (Dale) Hatchett of Nashville; and her grandchildren, Kylene (Travis) Drake of Freetown and Norma and Sara Kaufman of Nashville.
She is also survived by her niece, Amy Hatchett of Nashville; nephews, Dakota (Krissy) Hatchett of Morgantown and Matthew (Mikenzie) Hatchett of Nashville; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, Nannette was preceded in death by her son, Joshua Cook, and her brother, Bobby Petro.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until noon on Wednesday, January 21, at Meredith Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street, Morgantown. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Reeves Cemetery in Brown County, officiated by Pastor Andy Clemins.
Memorial contributions may be made in Nannette’s memory to the Brown County Public Library, P.O. Box 8, Nashville, IN 47448.
