Matt David Newton

Matt David Newton, age 67 of Bloomington, passed away on September 2nd, 2024 from cardiac issues related to his decades long fight with diabetes.

David was born in Indianapolis on December 18th, 1956 to Bill and Esther Newton. His father was his biggest hero, and David remembered him fondly to friends and family. He was raised in Indianapolis – with a special fondness for his family roots in Bloomington. David graduated from Pike High School in 1976 then moved to Tampa, FL to attend University of South Florida. He would return home to join the family crane business just before graduation. David finished his bachelor’s degree at Indiana University in 1994. Throughout his life he worked in a variety of positions – ranging from construction, financial advising, and realty. David was a close friend, a proud father, and a passionate thinker.

He loved music, reading, political discussions and anything he could share with friends; of which he had many. David is preceded in death by his parents; Bill and Esther. He is survived by his close friend, Donna Terrell of Unionville, IN, his son, William Newton of Bethesda, MD, and dozens of lifelong friends and cousins from Indiana to Florida and around the world. David was extremely intelligent, academically inclined, but – above all – passionate and compassionate. His friendships were his treasures in this life. David loved them dearly and they sustained him through the hard times.

A service of remembrance is planned for Thursday, September 26th at 2:00 p.m. at Little Union Baptist Church, 5511 North Brummetts Creek Road in Bloomington. Services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
