Mark A. Mitchem, age 62 passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, February 22, 2023 at his home in Morgantown.
He was born July 3, 1960 in Martinsville to his parents, the late Raymond and Pearl (Stanley) Mitchem. Mark was a 1978 graduate of Martinsville High School and went on to serve as a Specialist 4th Class with the Indiana Army National Guard. He retired in 2022 from Diamond Chain Company in Indianapolis, where he worked as a Machinist for over 20 years. Prior to that, Mark owned and operated a residential painting company called Madd Painting in Morgantown.
He was a member of the Morgantown General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. Mark will be remembered for being a loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, listening to the oldies and watching movies. He enjoyed traveling to the beaches of Jacksonville and Myrtle Beach with his family and traveling to visit his out of state church family. Mark never backed down from a good roller coaster, which he would ride with his children. He also enjoyed decorating his home for the holidays, especially for Halloween and Christmas.
Mark is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Debra K. (Williams) Mitchem, whom he married on June 6, 1981 in Morgantown. He is also survived by his children, Mandy (Rocky) Ellis of Jacksonville Beach, FL and Michelle (Randy) Hodge of Morgantown; siblings, Karen (Doug) Bailey & Kathy (Bill) Martin both of Martinsville, Kenny (Leigh Ann) Mitchem of Huntsville, AL, Ervin (Amy Orr) Mitchem of Edwardsport and Calvin Mitchem of Mooresville; grandchildren, Korbin & Nolan Ellis of Jacksonville Beach, FL and Sebastian Hodge of Morgantown.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant daughter, Cassandra Mitchem.
Bros. Jeff Bryant and Rodger Bunch will conduct a funeral service on Monday at 1 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
