Louella May ’Betty’ (Hunley) Burkert, age 93 passed away on Thursday afternoon, December 29, 2022 at Brown County Health & Living Community in Nashville. She was a resident of Brown County and a former resident of Shelbyville & Freedom.
Betty was born May 19, 1929 in Nashville, Tennessee to her parents, the late George and Lillian (Bennett) Hunley. She married Robert "Bob" Leslie Burkert on December 2, 1950 in Indianapolis. He preceded her in death on December 17, 2015 after 65 loving years of marriage.
Betty was a retired Book Binder, where she worked in Indianapolis for 34 years. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star #359 in Fairland and a former member of the Shelbyville Baptist Temple Church. Betty loved spending time in the outdoors and boating at Lake Monroe, Ohio River and at the beautiful lakes of Kentucky. She also enjoyed crocheting, planting flowers as well as collecting teddy bears and dolls. Betty and her husband were avid travelers and enjoyed seeing the country while riding their motorcycle.
She is survived by her siblings, Margaret Patterson of Morgantown, Shirley Falls of Lebanon, & Wilbur Henley of Carmel; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by a brother, George Hunley.
The Rev. Warner Swopes will conduct a funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
