Leonard R. Mayo, age 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, September 28, 2025 at his home in Brown County.
He was born on January 8, 1942, in Beech Grove, Indiana, to the late Russell and Alene (Sims) Mayo. Leonard was a hardworking and dedicated man who spent his career as a self-employed carpenter, specializing in interior trim. His craftsmanship and attention to detail were respected by many.
Leonard was a proud member of Gateway Cowboy Church in Trafalgar, where his faith was a guiding part of his life.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Leonard found joy in riding horses, caring for his yard, and working the land—raising both crops and livestock on his farm. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren and never missed an episode of his favorite show, Gunsmoke.
In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jearlene (West) Mayo, who passed away on August 18, 2015.
He is survived by his loving children: Dale (Terri) Mayo of Trafalgar, Faith (Don) Stice of Crothersville, and Rob (Carrie) Mayo of Brown County; siblings: Virgil (Marilynn) Mayo of Greenwood, Dick Mayo of Greenwood, Tommy (Theresa) Mayo of Indianapolis, Patty (Ed) Fislar of Arizona, and Roy (Lynn) Mayo of Columbus.
Leonard will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Hailey Mayo, Shelby Mayo, Cody (Sierra) Ghuman, Ryan (Sarah) Blubaugh, Travis (Megan) Riddle, Steven Mayo, Erin (Shawn) Chumbley, Carter Brown, Scott (Michelle) Derringer, Josh (Rae) Derringer, Lacey (Ben) Voils and Cody (Sindy) Brown; and his great-grandchildren: Colt Ghuman, Mercer Blubaugh, and Caroline Blubaugh
