Lennis A. “Lennie” Zimmerman, age 65, of Morgantown, passed away unexpectedly on Friday evening, October 18, 2024.
Lennie was born on December 4, 1958, in Martinsville, Indiana, to his parents, Donel “Don” and Sharon (Woods) Zimmerman. A proud 1977 graduate of Indian Creek High School, where he was class Vice-President, Lennie spent all of his life in the trucking industry, retiring from Horizon Freight Line of Edinburgh.
Lennie was a man of many passions. He was known for his deep affection for his 1978 Custom Ford F-100 truck, a vehicle on which all his children learned to drive, and one he proudly drove in local parades. His love for sports was equally evident. He was a dedicated fan of NASCAR, Sprint Car racing (with Steve Kinser being his favorite driver), IU Men’s Basketball, the Indianapolis Colts, and Notre Dame Football. But more than anything, Lennie cherished time spent with his family and friends, who will always remember him for his quick wit, great storytelling, and the joy he brought to those around him.
Lennie is survived by his mother, Sharon Zimmerman of North Liberty; his children, Krista J. Day of Trafalgar, Joel Zimmerman of Trafalgar, and Kasee L. Young of Seymour; his companion, Leesa (Long) Friedlander of Franklin; his sister, Lisa (Dave) Collier of North Liberty; mother of his children, Cynthia Zimmerman of Morgantown; and his beloved grandchildren, Kyra, Masen, David, Aevah & Virgil; his niece, Shana Laskowski; and his nephews, Cody Collier, Jamie & Kyle Zimmerman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda L. (Robinette) Zimmerman, whom he married on December 17, 2003, and who passed away on February 19, 2012. Lennie was also preceded in death by his father, Don; son, Chet Zimmerman, and siblings, Mark and Jed Zimmerman.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 23rd, at 3:00 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street, Morgantown. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until the service begins. Lennie will be laid to rest next to his son, Chet, at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
