Jesse Dale Brown, age 97, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday morning, December 1, 2024. He was a lifelong resident of Brown County, Indiana.
Jesse was born on June 21, 1927 and was raised on the family farm on Salt Creek Road. He attended the one room Brown School which was across the road from his home, and later Nashville High School. After school Jesse went on to serve with the Merchant Marines during World War II, and shortly after enlisted in the United States Army in 1945 where he served in Korea and was promoted to Staff Sergeant until he was honorably discharged.
Jesse began working for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus in 1950 and retired in 1988 after 38 years of service.
Jesse is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Vera Jeannine (Vansickle) Brown, whom he married on January 16, 1953 in Columbus. He is also survived by his children, Danny Brown of Trafalgar, Amy (Richard) Zeiher of Franklin, Jeffrey (Cynthia) Brown of Greencastle, Kevin (Kimberly) Brown of Greencastle, Amanda (David) Newlin of Nashville and Abigail (Russell) Smith of Nashville; sisters, Kay (Marvin) Frownfelter of Indianapolis and Lou Ann (Jerry) Mihay of Columbus; several grandchildren; one great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents (Virgil and Ruth Brown), siblings (Ernestine Bertotti, Gene, Wayne, Marshall, Noel and Mary Brown), and grandson (Aaron Zeiher).
In keeping with Jesse’s wishes, he will be cremated and inurned at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown. Cremation services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
