James A. “Jim” Williams, age 92, of Nashville, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday morning, January 30, 2025.
Jim was born on September 9, 1932, in Cumberland, the fourth of thirteen children born to Clancy and Stella (Limbach) Williams. He was a 1950 graduate of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, where he was involved in Future Farmers of America. After high school, Jim proudly served as a Corporal with the 516th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Missile Battalion of the United States Army and was honorably discharged on January 1, 1961.
Jim’s career spanned several fields, beginning with his work as a truck driver and equipment operator for the Brown County Highway Department. He then spent over 28 years as a beloved school bus driver for Brown County Schools. Alongside his professional career, Jim worked diligently to care for his family’s farm, raising cattle, hogs, hay, tobacco and corn.
Jim found joy in simple pleasures, including reading western novels, listening to country music, and tending to his vegetable garden. His quiet strength, deep love for his family, and hardworking nature left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, James E. “Eddie” Williams of Nashville; his siblings Verda Hall of Carmel, Mary Cook of Charlottesville, George Williams of Greenfield, Robert Williams of Carthage, and Dale (Jill) Williams of Charlottesville; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death on March 3, 1987 by his beloved wife of 30 years, Helen (Dailey) Williams, whom he married in November of 1956. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Buck, Bud, Charles, Carl and Kenneth Williams, Lucille Hey and Alice Overhoff.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown. Military rites will be presented by the Brown County Honor Guard and the United States Army at noon.
