James E. “Jim” Scott, age 90, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, January 23, 2026, at Grand Valley Healthcare & Rehab in Martinsville. He was a resident of Nineveh and a former resident of Clearwater, Florida.
Jim was born on July 30, 1935, in Monroe, Kentucky, to the late Fred and Ida Scott. He retired in 1997 from Stark-Wetzel in Indianapolis, where he worked as a truck driver for more than 27 years. After retirement, Jim continued working in the Maintenance Department at Morgan County Hospital in Martinsville, where he remained dependable and hardworking—traits that defined his life.
A man who truly appreciated the simple things, Jim found his greatest joy in time spent with his family. He loved traveling and vacationing with his wife, family, and friends—whether on a cruise or visiting Florida or Arizona. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and was an avid bowler in his younger years. Jim was well known for his plentiful garden, hosting family cookouts, and settling in to watch old westerns on television. He was also a loyal fan of IU Men’s Basketball, the Indianapolis Colts, and especially enjoyed watching his grandson race sprint cars.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Nancy S. (Watson) Scott, whom he married on August 8, 1981, in Nashville; his children, Jay (Julie) Scott of Morgantown, Dana Jo (Karen Kinney) Scott of Greenwood, Stephen (Debra) Scott of Trafalgar, and Glenn (Cathy) Scott of Morgantown; siblings, Ann Pearl Sims, Leonard (Jane) Scott, Jerry (Ann) Scott, Jean Sanborn, Barbara (Larry) Shaub, Patty (Joe) Gray, Ronnie (Belia) Smith, and Robert Smith; grandchildren, Ethan (Lauren) Scott, Lydia (Fady) Megally, Taylor (Tori) Kinney, Josh (Melissa) Scott, Deana Scott-Burton, Jeremiah (Marcella) Scott, Jensen (Misty) Scott, Jodi Scott, and Jake (Ashleigh) Scott; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, January 28, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Meredith Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street, Morgantown. A Celebration of Life graveside service will be held at East Hill Cemetery this spring.
