James F. “Jim” Gill, age 91, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, October 6, 2025, at his home in Trafalgar.
Jim was born on September 17, 1934, in West Virginia to his parents, Frazier and Viola (Hizer) Gill. He retired in 1990 as a union carpenter after more than 30 years of service. In addition to his trade, Jim owned and operated his family farm in Trafalgar, where he raised crops and livestock. He loved working the land and found great joy in being a farmer.
Jim was formerly a member of Fair Haven Christian Church, where he was baptized. He enjoyed antiquing, visiting flea markets, and caring for his dogs—Dolly, Ivie, and Shadow. Known for his knack for fixing just about anything, Jim could take something broken or worn and make it like new again—from farm machinery and cars to clocks and wristwatches. He also took pride in his garden and caring for the land he called home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 60 years, Joyce C. (Kalsbeck) Gill, whom he married in August of 1957.
Jim is survived by his children, Cheryl (Fredric) Ferguson of Trafalgar and James T. Gill of Morgantown; siblings, Nellie Hicks of Trafalgar, Willis (Faye) Gill of Trafalgar, Linda Syrus of Franklin, Larry Gill of Columbus, Calvin (Wilma) Gill of West Virginia, and Edith Hizer of West Virginia.
He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Cameron (Kristin) Frye of Elizabethtown, Cassie Smith of Princes Lakes, Justin Gill of Morgantown, Mark (Ashley) Ferguson of Trafalgar, and Tegan Ferguson of Trafalgar; great-grandchildren: Katelyn Frye, Michael Gill, Ronin Smith, Piper Smith, Carson Frye, Mark Ferguson Jr., Megan Ferguson, Charlie Ferguson, Cameron Elmore, and Gracie Childers; and great-great-granddaughter, Oakland Ferguson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 10th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. David McCarty.
