Herbert Clark Cook, affectionately known as Herb, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning February 23, 2025. Born on January 27, 1938, in Bradfordsville, Kentucky, he was the second child of Jasper C. and Grace Emily (Lay) Cook. Herb graduated from Franklin High School in 1956 and married Rheta Waltz on March 17, 1957. Together, they raised four sons: Larry, Gary, Gayle, and Jerry.
Herb dedicated 34 years to Lily Industrial Coating before retiring in 2000. A devoted member and Deacon of Samaria Christian Church, his faith was a guiding light for his family. He enjoyed rabbit and squirrel hunting, fishing, and springtime walks in the woods searching for morel mushrooms. An avid sports supporter, he cheered on his sons and grandchildren in their activities. After retirement, Herb and Rheta embarked on many memorable adventures across the country.
He is survived by his wife, Rheta; sons, Larry (Pat), Gary (Cathleen), Gayle (Carol), and Jerry; sister Aline (Cook) Sosbe; sisters-in-law, Ann (Jacobs) Cook and Margaret (Lockhart) Waltz; his brother-in-law, Hershell Waltz; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William C. Cook.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 26th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Samaria Christian Church, 4779 W. State Road 135 in Trafalgar. The Rev. Shan Rutherford will conduct a funeral service on Thursday, February 27th at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
