Gary Lee Hostetler (a.k.a. “Hoss”), age 68 passed away all too soon on Wednesday afternoon, December 27, 2023 at his son’s home in Brown County. He was a resident of Logansport.
Hoss was born January 18, 1955 in Logansport, to his parents, the late Francis E. and Ruth Ann (Weaver) Hostetler. He was a 1974 graduate of Logansport High School. Gary retired in 2011 as the Building Commissioner for the City of Logansport. After retirement, Hoss worked for several years at Warner’s Greenhouse in Logansport. Prior to becoming the Building Commissioner, he worked for Baker Specialty & Supply Company in Logansport for several years.
Hoss was very instrumental in starting up girls’ softball in Logansport in 1979. He enjoyed coaching and umpiring pixie league and had the opportunity to coach the Joe Herd Hunnies Team. He was also the coach of the Louthainette Team, which was an all-girls fast pitch softball team in the Tri-County League. Hoss loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and caring for his Lab, Max.
He is survived by his son, Travis (Jessica) Hostetler of Brown County; sister, Carol Ann (Tom) Spangler of Logansport; grandchildren, Cassidy, Noah & Quintin Hostetler; and his softball family.
Hoss was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Larry Hostetler.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, May 25th from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Logansport V.F.W. Post #3790, 1023 Erie Avenue, Logansport, IN 46947.
