Fred A. “Ducky” Troxal, a lifelong resident of Martinsville, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, August 31, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born on March 26, 1947, in Martinsville, he was the son of the late Robert Wesley and Flossie (Soard) Troxal. Ducky attended Morgantown High School and later volunteered as the Property Manager for Indiana Ag & Technology School in Morgantown (formerly Presnell Farm), after 25 years of dedicated service. He found great peace and fulfillment working on the farm — a place that brought him serenity and purpose.
A devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for 45 years, Ducky served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and cherished the fellowship and faith that the church community provided. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting deer, grouse, and rabbits, and his passion led him to become a trusted hunting guide — even guiding and forging a close friendship with Coach Bobby Knight. He also was a fan of Northwoods Laws television show and was famous for his fudge making.
Ducky also enjoyed riding four-wheelers, fishing, and mowing grass. He had a great appreciation for the classic films of John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, and was a longtime fan of boxing and basketball.
In addition to his parents, Ducky was preceded in death by his siblings: Harvey, Robert, John, Tom and Pat Troxal, Ruby Smith, Peggy Luse and Daisy Crumley.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Peggy Jo (Criswell) Troxal, whom he married on August 10, 1971, in Martinsville. Also surviving are his beloved children: Cindy (Rocky) Hayden of Martinsville, Brian (Laurie) Troxal of Palm Coast, FL, Jeff Troxal of Michigan City, Joey (Lorie) Troxal of Martinsville and Savannah Troxal of Arizona; sister, Judy Gadd of Zephyrhills, FL; grandchildren: Tabitha Maxwell, Tiara Shields, Travis Shields, Little Brian Troxal, Mary Troxal, Christian Troxal, Shelby Smith, Jesse Troxal and Chance Jackson; step-grandchildren, Dillon Williams and Mariah Hughes; and 36 great-grandchildren, who brought him great joy.
In keeping with Ducky’s wishes, he will be cremated. Cremation services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
