Evelyn Smith Obituary

Evelyn (Morgan) Smith, age 86, of Brown County, passed away peacefully in the morning hours of February 7, 2025, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis, surrounded by love.

Evelyn was born in Hyden, Kentucky, on January 18, 1939, to the late Hobert and Ella (Mosley) Morgan. On January 25, 1975, she married her beloved husband of 50 years, Hughes M. Smith, in Burton, Michigan. Together, they shared a life full of love and joy.

Evelyn retired from General Motors, where she worked as a welder for over 20 years. She was also a dedicated member of the Greasy Creek Church in Nashville.

Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and enjoyed singing Christian music, tending to her flower gardens, fishing, shopping, and riding 4-wheelers with her husband in the hills of Kentucky.

She is survived by her husband, Hughes; daughters, Deloris Dale (Greg) Carswell of Flint, MI, and Dewanda Gail (John) Sanders of Brown County; siblings, Shirley Hoskins of Brown County, Beanna (Jack Smith) Morgan of Brown County & Darlene (David) Vance of Hoskinston, Kentucky; grandchildren, Jonathon Sanders, Becky Dillman, Gregory Carswell II, Brandon Carswell, Melissa Sarnecki & Megan Henry; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Gladennie "Dena" Henry; and siblings: Dalton Morgan, Thadeus Morgan, Mildred Asher, Hoberta Hall, Leda Gail Hall, Brenda Beagley, Chuckie Morgan, Debbie Rinker, and Dean Morgan.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Randy LaVere officiating. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
