Elsie A. (Richhart) Shawver, age 95, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, June 16, 2025, at her home in Indianapolis. She was a former resident of Plainfield.
Elsie was born in Morgan County on August 14, 1929, to the late James William and Maude L. (Dine) Richhart. She graduated from Trafalgar High School in 1947 and went on to enjoy a long career in the Payroll Department at Stewart-Warner in Indianapolis, retiring after more than 30 years of dedicated service.
A longtime member of University Heights Christian Church in Indianapolis, Elsie shared her musical talents by playing the piano during services. She found joy in volunteering, especially at the libraries in Plainfield. Elsie also loved taking long walks in the woods, quilting, and spending time with her nieces and nephews. She will be remembered fondly for her exceptional baking—especially her angel food cakes, a family favorite.
In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Philip D. Shawver, whom she married on August 14, 2003, in Plainfield. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Leslie Richhart and Bonnie Sensel, and a nephew, William Charles Sensel.
She is survived by her niece, Martha (Timothy) Walker of Indianapolis; great-niece, Mindy (Matt) Barriger of Greenwood; great-nephews, Christopher C. (Nicole) Sensel of Georgia and Christopher C. (Amanda) Walker of Florida; great-great-niece, Kingsley Walker of Florida; and great-great-nephews, Elijah Sensel of Georgia and Adien Walker of Florida.
The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a graveside service on Tuesday afternoon, June 24th at 2 p.m. at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home, Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
