Donald E. ‘Don’ Irwin, age 95 passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, February 7, 2023 at Greenwood Village South. He was a resident of Franklin.
Don was born August 23, 1927 in Franklin to the late Howard and Marjorie (Richarson) Irwin. He was a 1945 graduate of Franklin High School and went on to serve as a Staff Sergeant with the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Don retired in 1989 from Plant 5 of General Motors Allison Division after 15 years of service. Prior to that, he worked for Weir Cook Airport in Indianapolis. He was a member of the United Autos Workers Union, Providence Union Village #545 and a 70-year member of the Edinburgh American Legion Post 233. Don enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time with his wife Silba, who referred to as his Sweetheart.
He was preceded in death on March 15, 2019 by his loving wife of 70 years, Silba J. (Smith) Irwin, whom he married on September 3, 1948 at the Franklin United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his children, Linda Baker of Oregon, Sherry (Thomas) Teipen of Indianapolis, Judy (Rickey) Kelley of Bargersville, Teresa (Randy, Deceased) Kelley of Bargersville and Brad Irwin of Frankfort; brother, Dean Irwin of Whitestown; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren & one great-great granddaughter.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 11th at 11 a.m. at Harris Cemetery in Bargersville. Military rites will be presented by the United States Air Force and the Franklin American Legion Honor Guard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
