Charles "Bill" Galt Obituary

Charles “Bill” W. Galt Sr., age 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, December 7, 2025 at Axiom Healthcare of Harrisburg in Illinois. He was a resident of several communities throughout Indiana and a former resident of Ft. Myers, Florida.

Charles was born May 13, 1929 in Indianapolis, to his parents, the late Boone and Winifred (Carter) Galt. He was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School and continued his education at Lane Technical Institute. Bill later went on to proudly serve the United States Army during the Korean War. On July 16, 1955, he married Edith K. Akers in South Bend. They shared 55 loving years together before her passing in 2011.

Bill worked for 17 years as a draftsman and designer with Rotz Engineering before establishing his own private consulting business.  He was a former member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Morgantown and served as a past President of the Indiana Chapter of American Plumbing Engineers. 

Charles was strong in his faith and enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. Bill will be remembered most for his dedication to his work, his quiet strength, love he held for his family and his unyielding faith in God.

Bill will be missed by his children: Kathi Mortensen of Mooresville and Charles “Billy” (Lisa) Galt Jr. of Golconda, Illinois; grandchildren:  Brandi (Todd) Ramey, Jason Galt, Jeremy Galt, & Jared (Brittany) Galt; great grandchildren: Elijah Ramey, Hunter, Bryson, Asher, Charlie, Jack and Braxton Galt; siblings: Nancy Marlett of North Carolina and Edward Galt of Indiana and nephew Greg Marlett of Martinsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Edith Galt, son-in-law David Mortensen and siblings: Winifred Moore, Robert Galt, Patricia Parsons, Judith Tupper, James Galt, Gerlad Rose and James Rose.

Pastor Mike Ellis will conduct a service at the mausoleum at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 11th at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.  Military rites will be presented by the United States Army and the local honor guard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
