Carol A. (Payne) Garrett, age 77 passed away peacefully on Monday morning, October 10, 2022 at her home in Franklin.
She was born September 26, 1945 in Paragon, to her parents, the late Denver Kelso and Mary Belle (Bolin) Payne. Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a devoted member of the Gospel Assembly Church in Indianapolis for the past 64 years. Carol enjoyed watching & feeding the birds and had many pencil sketch books filled with drawings of birds. She also enjoyed caring for her beloved dog, Buttercup.
Her whole life revolved around her church and her family. Carol received the Holy Spirit at age 13 and never looked back. Her love of family and worrying about everyone’s well-being, was always on her mind.
She was preceded in death on January 20, 2001 by her loving husband of 38 years, Erthal F. Garrett Jr., whom she married on September 13, 1963 in Indianapolis. Carol was also preceded in death by siblings, Terry and Norman Ray Payne; and a grandson, Damion Michael Garrett.
She is survived by her children, Rella (Charles) Ingram and Timothy Garrett, both of Franklin; sister, Linda (Jay Dee) Brown of Louisville, KY; sisters in law, Laura Payne of Gosport and Patty Payne of Mooresville; grandchildren, Thomas Garrett of Martinsville, Edward Garrett of Bargersville and C. Joseph Ingram of Greenwood; and four great grandchildren.
The Rev. Roger Stevenson will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Gospel Assembly Church, 5809 Bluff Road in Indianapolis. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
