Brian D. Sumpter, age 60 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Morgantown and former resident of Brown County.
Brian was born February 9, 1964 in Martinsville, to his parents, Richard and Lula Ireta (Miller) Sumpter. He was a graduate of Brown County High School. Brian worked as a carpenter most of his life and most recently for Hamilton Construction Company.
He enjoyed fishing, working on vehicles and watching television shows like America’s Got Talent. Brian was one that never met a stranger and was always there to listen or lend a helping hand, whether you were family, friend or total stranger. He will be missed by his family, especially his daughters, who he loved dearly.
Brian is survived by his daughters, Ashlie (Harry) Burgess of Morgantown and Keandra Sumpter of Trafalgar; siblings, April (Joe) Carter of Columbus, Wanda Nash of Salem, Karen (Bill) Brooks of Colorado, Debra (Dennis) Sanders, Robin Whitaker, Richard (Bessie) Sumpter, Jeffrey (Natalie) Sumpter and Colleen (Bob) Slevins all of Brown County; grandchildren, Waylon, Lola, and Wesson Burgess; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lula Ireta Sumpter-Fox; and his father, Richard Sumpter.
The Pastor Raymond Dupree will conduct a funeral service on Monday, March 25th at 7 p.m. at The Pentecostals Church, 60 Mount Liberty Road in Nashville. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until service time on Monday at the church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
