Betty Jo (Tharpe) Weddle, age 84 passed away peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2024 at Compass Park in Franklin. She was a longtime resident of Morgantown.
Betty was born July 27, 1940 in Indianapolis, to her parents, the late Walter J. and Josephine (Hamilton) Tharpe. She was a 1958 graduate of Trafalgar High School. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who went on to earn a degree in Nursing from Indiana University in 1987. She retired in 2003 as an ER Nurse for Morgan County Hospital in Martinsville after many years of service.
She was a 50-year member of the Morgantown Baptist Church. Betty was also a member of the Morgantown Kappa Kappa Sorority, where she was a Past President and was a former 20-year Morgantown 4-H Leader. Betty enjoyed wintering with her late husband Dale in Naples, Florida. She also enjoyed sewing, tending to her vegetable garden, canning and cooking for her family. Betty loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren who called her “GG”. She also looked forward to her monthly luncheon with High School classmates.
She is survived by her children, JoEllen (Michael) Michener of Franklin and Lee (Susan) Weddle of Morgantown; grandchildren, Heather (Adam) Fleener of Franklin, Kevin (Holly) Michener of Greenwood, Kendra (Caleb) Foster of Morgantown & Karlea (Nathan Stropes) Weddle of Morgantown; great grandchildren, Caleb, Caitlyn, Caylee, Carter, Kole, Rosalee, Clara & Opal; siblings, Ernie Ray Tharpe of Morgantown & Suzan (Wayne) Brown of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49-years, Dale E. Weddle, whom she married on November 11, 1960 in Amity. Betty was also preceded in death by brothers, Jim and Ed Tharpe.
The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service on Thursday, October 10th at 1 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemtery in Morgantown.
