Betty Fleetwood Obituary

Betty Louise Fleetwood, age 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, April 22, 2025, at Brown County Health & Living Community in Nashville. A longtime resident of Brown County, Betty was known for her gentle spirit, strong work ethic, and deep devotion to her family and faith.

She was born in White County on November 24, 1927, to the late Henry and Fairbee (Henderson) Dowell. Betty attended Nashville High School and married the love of her life, Henry V. Fleetwood, on October 2, 1948, in Nashville. Together, they shared a lifetime of love and family until his passing on November 23, 2002.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She worked as a bus driver for the Brown County School Corporation for over 30 years, earning the respect and affection of countless students and colleagues. A longtime member of Cottonwood Christian Church, she lived her faith with quiet grace and commitment.

She enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—fishing with family, horseback riding, tending to her vegetable garden, and canning. One of her greatest joys was watching her son race late model dirt cars, cheering him on with pride.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her son, Wendell “Lee” Fleetwood; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Annette Fleetwood; and siblings, Lily Dowell, Robert Wayne Dowell, Lois Ackerman and Lee Dowell.

She is survived by her children: Danny Joe Fleetwood of Brown County, Brenda Joyce (Dann) Small of Westfield, and Vernon Ray (Debby) Fleetwood of Brown County; her sisters: Linda (Jim) Hosimer of Morgantown, Sara (Larry) Johnston of Morgantown, and Doris (Harold) Cox of Nashville. Betty also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Brad (Kristi) Fleetwood, Travis (Rachel) Fleetwood, Brady (Jenna) Small, Kandace (Daryl) Grabowski, Brittany (Ben) Colling, Justin (Rachel) Small, and Heidi (Levi) Jones; as well as, great-grandchildren, Brandt, Aiden, Camden, Ethan, Addie, Eli, Andi, Adam, Lisa, Ava Jane, Cru, Winston, Reagan, Remi, Crew, Foster, Anna, Abigail, Henry and Lola.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 5th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown.
