Betty Jane (Fleener) Asher, age 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, April 17, 2025, at Otterbein Franklin Senior Life Community. She was a beloved resident of the Otterbein Community and cherished by many.
Betty was born on January 4, 1940, in Franklin, to her parents, Woodrow and Mable Fleener. She attended Morgantown High School. Betty retired from Meijer Department Store in Avon, where she worked as a sales associate. Earlier in her career, she was employed at American Fasteners in Avon and Nice Pak in Mooresville, where she earned several leadership awards and was admired by her peers.
A woman of deep faith, Betty was a member of Eternal Baptist Church in Mooresville and attended Franklin United Methodist Church at Otterbein.
Betty found her greatest joy in her role as a devoted mother and loving grandmother. She had a warm spirit and a kind heart. She enjoyed walking, watching classic Westerns, and had a special love for Betty Boop—so much so that her family affectionately called her Betty Boop. Betty was a self-taught musician, she learned to play both the piano and the guitar, and music remained a beloved part of her life. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family most and will be deeply missed by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Betty is survived by her children, Stanley (Rhonda) Asher of Chandler, AZ, Debra (Kelly) Dennis of Indianapolis and Sandra (Ed) Camden of Indianapolis; siblings, Harry (Donna) Fleener of Morgantown and Peggy Fleener of Martinsville; grandchildren, David Asher, Corey Asher, Kylan Asher, Ian Asher, and Aaron Asher; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, James Asher; and her siblings, Richard Fleener, Greta Sue Fleener, Barbara Dennison and Tom Fleener Sr.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 21st from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street, Morgantown. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. on Monday, conducted by the Rev. Adam Fleener, also at the funeral home. Betty will be laid to rest at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
