Bertha A. (Bruce) Dunning-Brock, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, December 29, 2025, at Brown County Health & Living Community in Nashville. She was a resident of Brown County.
Bertha was born in Brown County on February 29, 1936, to the late Lloyd A. and Froney (Stogdill) Bruce. She was a 1954 graduate of Spencer High School in Owen County. Throughout her life, Bertha devoted herself to her family, serving faithfully as a loving wife, mother, homemaker, sister, and grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into caring for those she loved.
A woman of strong Christian faith, Bertha was a devoted member of Greasy Creek Community Church in Nashville. She found comfort and strength in the Lord and enjoyed reading Christian books. Bertha will be fondly remembered for her beautiful crocheted creations and her enjoyment of working puzzles. Her gentle spirit, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Diana (Ed) Willis of Columbus, Dewayne (Tina) Dunning of Martinsville, and Delbert (Sabrina) Dunning of Brown County; sisters, Nancy Deckard of Ellettsville and Sandra (Gilbert) Hatton of Bardstown, Kentucky; grandchildren, Joanna (Nathan) Spaulding, Matthew (Kayla) Dunning, Rebakah (Cody) David, Chad (Jamie) Walls, Matt (Whitney) Long, Jeremy (Izzy) Long, and Blake (McKayla) Long; and nineteen great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by the father of her children, Earl E. Dunning on October 29, 2013. She was also preceded in death on August 26, 2019 by her husband, Rev. Sim F. Brock, whom she married on February 29, 2008 in Nashville. Bertha was also preceded in death by her siblings, Delores Allender, Richard Bruce, Frank Bruce, and Lloyd Bruce.
The Revs. Ron Hampton and Mark Douglas will conduct a funeral service on Saturday, January 3rd at 12:00 p.m. at Meredith Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street, Morgantown. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
