Alma Jean (White) Rainwater passed away in her 100th year on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. One of Morgantown’s oldest residents, Alma carried with her a lifetime of memories and stories of the town she loved, and her passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of all who knew her. Many will fondly miss seeing Alma spending time on her porch swing, welcoming neighbors and friends with her warm smile and kind spirit.
Alma was born on August 2, 1925, in Johnson County, to the late William Walter and Ressie Mae (Underwood) White. She attended Trafalgar High School and devoted thirty years of her working life as a Nursing Assistant and Housekeeper at Henderson Nursing Home and Franklin United Methodist Home. She retired in 1990 to focus on what she cherished most—her home and family.
Alma had a jolly personality that made everyone feel right at home, whether visiting on her front porch or working alongside her on one of her many projects. She was a positive influence to all who knew her and was widely known for her willingness to help others in need. She took great pride in being a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
She could often be found alongside her best friend and husband, Glenn, raising hay and cattle on their family farm. Never one to be idle, Alma enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and creating quilts, rugs, and woodworking projects—many of which found their way into the homes of family and friends as gifts of love. She was active with the Morgantown Food Pantry and was a faithful member of the Morgantown Assembly of God since 1970, where she served for many years overseeing the kitchen and dining room. Above all else, Alma’s greatest pride and joy in life was her family.
Alma married her loving husband, Glenn Rainwater, on September 15, 1942, at the Nashville Christian Church. He preceded her in death on July 27, 2013, after 71 devoted years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Glenda J. Clark; daughter-in-law, Beverly K. Rainwater; and siblings Ruby Gillett, Martha Hood, Catherine Boggs, Goldie Tracy, Frances Glardon, and Walter, Marvin, Morris, and Roy White.
Alma is survived by her children, Karen Sue (Martin) Lower and Jimmy Lee Rainwater, both of Morgantown; grandchildren Lisa (Ed) Alexander of Morgantown, Teri Clark of Morgantown, Eric (Nikki) Lower of Morgantown, Amy (Joey) Dallas of Morgantown, Deanna (David) Bledsoe of Morgantown, Robbie (Karen) Rainwater of Trafalgar, and Randy (Gwen) Rainwater of Morgantown; eleven great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Richard Clark of Morgantown; goddaughter, Alma Lee; and her beloved dog, Jack.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 9th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Meredith Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Pastor Vern Snyder will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Alma will be laid to rest beside her husband, Glenn, at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
Alma’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Luminary Hospice and Compass Park for the exceptional care and compassion shown to their mother.
